St. Pius V Social Services
Through its social services, St. Pius V assists people in desperate need through a time of transition to economic independence and personal and family health. Specializing in assistance to victims of domestic violence in Pilsen and throughout the Chicago area, St. Pius V also offers an array of services to others in need.
Soup Kitchen: For the hungry, whether they have no home or live in poverty, St. Pius V’s Soup Kitchen serves 500 hot meals weekly in the church basement on Monday, Friday and Saturday at 12:30 pm
Food Pantry: Each week approximately 50 families receive two large baskets of food from St. Pius V’s Food Pantry. Service is on Tuesdays, 3:00-5:00 pm.
Clothing: St. Pius V maintains a secondhand store, La Tiendita, which provides used clothing and household items to poor families and the homeless. Service is Monday thru Saturday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm at 1701 W. 18th Place.
Princess Closet: Our parish is a proud partner with Princess Closet, a volunteer organization "devoted to enhancing the lives of financially disadvantaged high school students by making their dreams of attending prom or graduation accessible by providing gowns... enriching them in the areas of positive self-image... [and] equipping girls with the knowledge of self-presentation to develop future leaders." Look for their Dream Day Events each spring and find more information at their website: princess-closet.org.
Counseling: St. Pius V maintains an excellent professional staff of counselors to assist individuals, couples and families to overcome crises or simply to grow personally and spiritually. A team of seven counselors addresses problems such as depression, grief, intergenerational conflict, chemical addictions, domestic violence and other marriage problems. Marriage Enrichment: Couples interested in improving their marriage, St. Pius V offers a series of six classes in marriage enrichment. For information call the parish office (312) 226-6161.

Shelter for Homeless Men: St. Pius V works closely with San Jose Obrero Mission, an interim shelter for homeless men that operates 24/7 at 1856 S. Loomis. Referrals: St. Pius V assists scores of people each day with referrals to human and material resources in the community, including referrals for domestic violence help, health services, housing, legal assistance, educational opportunities, child services, etc.
