St. Pius V Parish

Unique and Inspiring Celebration of Good Friday at St. Pius V

Many St. Pius V parishioners will participate in the Living Way of the Cross on Good Friday (April 10) in the Pilsen neighborhood.

The procession will begin at Providence of God Parish, 18th Street and Union, at 9:00 a.m. with the drama of the Last Supper and it will conclude at 12:00 noon at St. Adalbert Parish, 1656 W. 17th Street.  The dramatization of the Crucifixion will be presented at Harrison Park, 18th Street and Damen, at 11:00 a.m.

In the evening, St. Pius V will celebrate the traditional Good Friday liturgy at 7:00 p.m., which includes prayers, reading of the Passion, and Holy Communion.

St. Pius V adds an even more traditional part to the liturgy: preaching on Jesus' Seven Last Words.  In a darkened church, seven parishioners will each share a reflection on one of the Last Words and relate it their own experience.  Many think this celebration is the most moving and inspiring liturgy we celebrate at St. Pius V in the whole year.  Many different parishioners have offered the reflections over the past years, and their words have revealed how they themselves are living the paschal mystery of the Lord.
